Why do this project now?

Since 2017, Burten, Bell, Carr Development (BBC) has taken on the role of being the community development corporation for the Buckeye Woodhill area. This task included surveys, door knocking and one on one discussions with residents, merchants, and resident leaders to determine the immediate needs of the community and long term goals of the neighborhood.

In 2017, we established the Buckeye Place Ambassador program that allows us to engage with key stakeholders to strategize and plan programs and events that address the needs of the neighborhood. In collaboration with various community partners, we have created neighborhood wide initiatives to guide upcoming programming and events.

In late 2019, BBC added the Buckeye-Shaker footprint to its service area ensuring that all of Buckeye will benefit from the revival of the community. This includes the Larchmere, Shaker Square, Moreland Courts, Ludlow, & Woodhill Estates.

Who is Burten, Bell, Carr, Development?

BBC is a nonprofit community development corporation founded in 1990 that serves Cleveland’s Central and Kinsman neighborhoods. In 2017, we extended our community development services into the Buckeye neighborhood. Our mission is to empower citizens and revitalize blighted and underserved communities.

Our vision is to be a premier community transformation and citizen empowerment organization in the United States. BBC’s work has noticeably evolved over the years, extending our impact to the areas of health and wellness, sustainability, greening, education, and workforce development.

Going forward, BBC intends to build upon the momentum of our recent transformative revitalization measures, including both programmatic and physical components. The integration of green space development, real estate development, health and wellness programming, and social enterprise formation will continue to be a key strategy used to grow our neighborhood economies and strengthen social fabric.
